The project MOREPOWER

The project MOREPOWER develops a compact fuel cell with a power output of 500 W, operating with alcohols (methanol or ethanol) as fuel. Applications are for example weather stations, medical devices, signal units, APU's, gas sensors and security cameras especially in remote areas.

The advantages of fuel cells are low emission and the possibility of use of renewable fuels like alcohols produced by biomass. In the next future fuel cells shall replace conventional power systems and help meeting the target of the Kyoto Protocol for a society based on sustainable energy systems. Portable fuel cells are assumed to open the market for automotive and stationary fuel cells.

MOREPOWER is a Specific Targeted Research Project (STREP) of the European Union.

Duration is 39 month. It has started in February 2004.
